In the spring of 2013 Bill Mills was a cinematographer aboard the Seabed Worker during the historic recovery of engines from Apollo 11 in the deep sea. The film was presented during the annual Explorer’s Club Dinner when the F-1 Recover Team received the Citation of Merit Award presented by Astronaut Buzz Aldrin.

From the Bezos Expedition website:
“March 16, 2014 CONGRATULATIONS TEAM! The Explorers Club has been around for over 100 years promoting the scientific exploration of land, sea, air, and space. The most famous explorers of our generation belonged to the club and recorded a long list of “firsts”—the first to the North Pole, first to the South Pole, first to the summit of Mount Everest, first to the deepest point in the ocean, and first to the surface of the moon. Every year the club puts on a big dinner for all the members of the club where they present awards and raise money for research and other programs. I’m excited to report that the F-1 Engine Recovery team received the Citation of Merit Award at last night’s Explorers Club dinner. We were delighted and honored that Buzz Aldrin made the trip to present the award himself. It’s a big honor and well-deserved by a truly remarkable group of explorers. The search and recovery effort took years of work. All along the way, this team worked long, hard and smart, and we had a ton of fun. Thanks to the team, soon a whole new generation of young people will be able to see these amazing engines on display. A big congratulations to the whole expedition team!
Sincerely, Jeff Bezos
P.S. Here’s a video from the expedition that the club presented at the dinner last night.”
